Day 1 in Scotland

The mystical city of Edinburgh

rain 40 °F

Who meets a guy on the MegaBus and 3 weeks later gets to come to Scotland to get a personal tour of Edinburgh?!? ME!

My journey to Scotland was pretty uneventful minus the random guy on the bus to the airport that moved from his seat in the front row all the way to the last row of the bus directly next to me. This dude just starred at me the entire 1.5 hour bus ride to the Luton airport at 3am and tried to have a conversation with me but I pretended to be mute. All in all though the travel to Scotland went much smoother than the travel to Amsterdam last weekend.

When I did arrive, Pradeep was promptly at the arrivals gate and we had some coffee in the lobby before taking the bus from the airport to the city center. He told me about his night and the nudist party that he attended. It sounded like too much even for me! Apparently the night life in Edinburgh is very inventive and cutting edge.

On the bus I turned on my camera for the first time and realized it was almost dead and I did not bring my charger so I had to spend the rest of the day sparingly taking photos. These are some of the things that I passed on my way to my hotel room that Pradeep generously arranged for me (all free of charge).

My hotel is a bed and breakfast very close to downtown Edinburgh. It is super cute and old (like all of this city) but I will say they are not keen on dusting in this joint. Anyhow I am very happy with my little room and really want to thank Pradeep for being such a gentlemen. I have never had my own hotel room before.

Once I unpacked and Pradeep came back from the bank we were ready to set out for our day. And man did we do the most! First we went to the Edinburgh Art Museum which was very entertaining because they showed art from all over Europe and it was interesting seeing the different countries individual styles. Then we took a train to the Underwater Aquarium which is located underneath the river. Yes I said underneath. It is a building underwater, hints the name.

We were just in time to see the sharks and seals get feed so I was right front in center more excited than the hundreds of crying 2 year olds running around my ankles. After the aquarium we went back to the city center and saw the movie Honey 2 which was hilariously bad and I almost slaughtered the bratty teens sitting next to us that would not SHUT UP! The old ladies sitting by us ended up cussing the teenagers out before the end of the movie and I was cracking up because it sounded even harsher in the proper Sottish accent.

Side Note:
I would like to take this time to formally apologize to all adults that I abused as an adolescent. I am sorry. It was the hormones.

After the movie it was Cider Tasting Time at the pub down the street so we knocked a few back and discussed Americans, Scottish and our goals for the future.

When we were done with our deep conversation it was perfect timing for the Comedy Club next doors 9pm show so we got a great table in the center (I wonder why.... maybe because we would be great material for the comedians) and I met this guy....

There were 3 acts at the comedy club and the last guy was the other black person in the building. He was funny and called us out for being the only "browns in the building". Then I got double called out for being American on top of being "brown". It was too funny!

When the comedy club was over I went back to my room, changed quickly and we went to a club. Everyone in the club was the average age of 18 but I had fun and turned out a couple little Scottish boys with my moves (hahaha). At around 1am Pradeep decided he was ready to go and I broke a few little kids hurts and dashed out of the door. It took us an hour to find a cab and I almost got in a fight with a hen party (bachelorette party) who tried to cut us in line for a cab. It was bad but I made it back to my room safely, passed out and am ready for our next adventure.

Observation for the Day:
EVERYTHING IS PLAID HERE! Even the bus seats.
